Together: Our Community Cookbook

By The Hubb Community Kitchen Forward by Meghan, HRH The Duchess of Sussex Clarkson Potter Publishers
978-1-9848-02408-0, $16.99

The Hubb Community Kitchen is a group of London women who came together to cook homemade meals for their friends and families after the Grenfell Tower fire in London, where the immigrant and working-class residents lost more than 70 family members. After visiting the kitchen, The Duchess of Sussex suggested they publish a cookbook to raise funds to keep the kitchen open full time. Multi-cultural in flavor, many of these comforting recipes have been passed down through generations. Beautiful photographs of the communal kitchen show the warmth of these women and their love of food, with recipes such as Coconut Chicken Curry, Beef and Eggplant Casserole, and Russian Semolina Cake.

Breakfast: The Most Important Book about the Most Important Best Meal of the Day

By the Editors of Extra Crispy Magazine Oxmoor House
978-0-8487-5769-4, $25.00

Extra Crispy is a digital magazine dedicated to covering breakfast, brunch and the culture surrounding it. This is a delightfully quirky book that is serious about breakfast. Chapters like “Baking for the Easily Intimidated” (No-Bake Poptart Haus anyone?) and “Regional Meats” (Scrapple and Taylor Ham finally get their day in the sun), and “Coffee, Booze and Other Life-Enhancing Drinks” set the stage for a festive collection of recipes. The book is peppered with lively infographics and essays, such as “The Best Lacroix Hangover Cures”. While decidedly funny, the book is also filled with delicious breakfast and brunch offerings like Cinnamon- Sugar Dutch Baby, Candied Bacon, and Strawberry and Prosecco-Gazed Granola Coffee Cake.

A Literary Tea Party

By Alison Walsh Skyhorse Publishing
978-1-5107-2910-0, $19.99

We all love to read the food and drink bits in our favorite books, from the amazing candies and banquets in the Harry Potter series to literally any scene in Charlie & The Chocolate Factory. Alison Walsh took this love one step further to create Alison’s Wonderland Recipes (wonderlandrecipes.com), a blog dedicated to offering appetizer, entrée, side dish and desert recipes inspired by classic literature. These recipes celebrate our favorite literary food moments, including Eeyore’s Birthday Cake from Winnie-the-Pooh, Fairy Dust Star Cookies from Peter Pan, and Miss Marple’s Tea Sandwiches from A Pocket Full of Rye by Agatha Christie. Homemade tea blends and tea alternatives round out this sweet (and savory) book of tea-time treasures.

Cooking with Scraps: Turn Your Peels, Cores, Rinds and Stems Into Delicious Meals

By Lindsay-Jean Hard Workman Publishing
978-0-7611-9303-6, $19.95

Consumers have become more aware of the large amount of food wasted every day. Lindsay- Jean gives readers a meaningful way to repurpose all those unloved odds and ends but only when it makes sense to put them to use. These recipes are a starting point and, once they’ve been made a few times, can be easily adapted to scraps on hand. Recipes for Beet Greens and Eggplant Pizza, Cheese Tortellini with Sausage and Broccoli Stems, Danish Pancakes with Apple Core Syrup, Vanilla Pod Scented Candied Lemon Peel, and Dill Pickle Brine Bloody Mary make use of all those little leftovers we feel guilty about throwing out.
