Chef Gregory James, Maryland’s 2022 Chef of the Year, has an impressive culinary career that spans 25 years and both sides of the country. Arriving at the Inn at Perry Cabin in St. Michaels, Maryland, in 2019, he has brought sophistication and precision to the culinary programming of the historic landmark resort. Chef James is a devout advocate of watermen and farmers and brings the rich bounty of the Chesapeake Bay to life by sourcing locally. Embodying the true meanings of "farm-to-table" and "sea-to-table", Chef’s seasonally inspired menu features a rotation of local specialties and seafood delicacies from partner watermen and only the freshest produce and cheeses from farmers in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. One of our most popular offerings are our Maryland Crab Cakes, which were featured in 2022 Top 25 Historic Hotels of America Most Unique Culinary Heritage and Culinary Traditions.
Chef Greg’s passion extends beyond the kitchen and encompasses the importance of serving the community in which he lives. Committed to culinary education and, having completed his own training at the Culinary Institute of America in New York, he has created internship and externship programs at Inn at Perry Cabin that provide hands-on experiences for early-career culinarians.
Chef Greg’s desire to give back has also led him to a partnership with the St. Michaels Community Center. Chef Greg sits on the advisory board for the culinary division and has been involved in consulting with Jose Andreas’s DC Central Kitchen/THINK food group with the ultimate goal of creating a similar program in St. Michaels.
