A Taste of Cambridge 2018
A big part of summer on the Chesapeake is enjoying the fruits of the beautiful bay, and on July 14, that love was in full bloom during the 13th Annual Taste of Cambridge and Crab Cook-Off.
Local writer and Edible Delmarva contributor Kate Livie was pressed into service as a judge for this heavenly event, joining Bruce Mattel, Kate Barney, Rita Calvert, and Cecil Johnson in tasting dozens of crab dishes from local restaurants including Black Water Bakery, Blue Point Provision, The Cambridge Yacht Club, The High Spot, Jimmie and Sook’s, Lil Bitta Bull, Ocean Odyssey, Palm Beach Willies, RAR Brewing, Theodore’s Subs & Small Plates, and Water’s Edge Grill at the Hyatt.
Along with the panel of judges, who completed a blind taste-test to select their favorites, more than 800 tasters lined up to sample and vote their favorites in four categories plus their overall favorite in this annual battle, where the competition is friendly but fierce!
At the end of the day, top awards went to Chef Keisha from Water’s Edge Grill at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay for her Sweet Corn & Sweet Crab Fritter, and to the Crab Dip from Amanda Bramble and Jimmie & Sook’s. While the chefs are keeping the recipes a secret (we tried!), these local award winners – and all the entries -- are sure to be on the menu at these Cambridge eateries. Well worth a trip to this Delmarva gem that’s becoming known for its excellent food and drink!
