Edible Delmarva: Spring 2022
You know that feeling when something is just right. When you’re where you’re supposed to be, doing what you’re supposed to be doing. In putting this issue together, we found so many kindred spirits across Delmarva who are right there with us.
We wrote those lines five years ago in the Spring 2017 inaugural issue of Edible Delmarva, and it resonates more deeply today as we put together Issue 23.
Over the last five years, every word, every recipe, and every photograph has told the rich and varied story of food and drink in our region. Every contributor, every story subject, and every advertiser has made a commitment to partnering with us in telling those stories. We’re so grateful to each and every one of you, we couldn’t have done it without you.
Now, as spring arrives in Delmarva and we joyously return to the work of rekindling our relationships and reconnecting our communities, we celebrate the imagination and inspiration that mark this season of renewal and rebirth and celebrate the fresh, abundant feast across our region.
True to our “Eat, Drink, Read, Think” mantra, we continue to think global while shopping local. Stories that highlight our community treasures, like Marian Parrott of Sedona Restaurant, Ten Eyck Brewing, Clare’s Nutty Concoctions, and Billy T’s condiments, are side by side with thoughtful essays that provide insight into the broader issues of climate change and food labeling. And we just had to bring back a few of our favorite recipes (like that Coconut Smith Island Cake from our debut issue) along with fresh dishes that celebrate the season (those mussels on the cover!)
So as we head toward the next milestone, something we also said in that first issue is as true today (maybe more so!) as it was in early 2017:
In these times of uncertainty about what the future may bring, all across Delmarva there is energy and excitement and hope and optimism about making a difference in the community, one small action at a time. We couldn’t be more proud to be here, now, with all of you.
