Made in Berlin, Maryland, Clare’s Nutty Concoctions are perhaps the best nut brittle products to be found anywhere. With the first bite, the blast of butter, sugar, nuttiness, and a touch of salt sends your senses reeling in ecstasy.
What started as a whim to make something better than the average peanut brittle, which tends to be too hard on the teeth, soon became a passion to create a full range of nut brittles.
Clare Shockley, the owner and creator of the master formula, has a broad food-service business background. She worked at a restaurant in Ocean City from 1990-1996, then spent years learning food, liquor, beer, and wine sales. Her experience in marketing and development was a big help in launching Clare’s Nutty Concoctions during the pandemic.
What’s amazing is Clare had no experience making nut brittle. When her boyfriend bit into a hunk of peanut brittle and complained it was too hard, she said she’d make something better for him. Creating a good nut brittle was a challenge, but after just ten attempts she found what she was looking for.
Using top-quality ingredients like raw sugar, AA grade butter, and the freshest nuts, Clare makes a delicious treat that has become a local favorite. While she’s keeping the recipe a secret, she’s happy to spoil you with three current offerings: cashew brittle has just the right amount of nuts-to-brittle ratio, ensuring cashew lovers will swoon over this sweet treat; chocoholics will adore her dark chocolate-covered almond brittle while the standard-bearer, Golden Brittle (a tribute to her pet Golden Retriever) is a delicious blend of peanuts, almonds, and cashews.
